The ME members continue their yearly tradition of having a Macmillan Coffee event. Who's the hostess with the mostest, and how much did we raise?
The ME members had made invitations & posters the week before to tell their parents, carers, and others in and around Reading Mencap about our coffee event. This is just one of the posters the ME members made.
Since we weren't the only organisation in Reading raising money for Macmillan, eg the vast student community fundraising for the same cause, we had to do something to stand out. So we took our best poster (seen here) and had it laminated and displayed on the board outside our building.
Although we would prefer to raise money by doing our own coffee event, we still believe that it is important to raise money for other causes. Besides which, by raising money for a well-known cause like Macmillan we are still raising awareness of our own charity in the local community.
With the event in full swing, the cakes, tea & coffee were flowing. The members of Reading Mencap, their parents and carers, as well as our other visitors, gave whatever donations that they could to Macmillan.
We are very proud of our coffee event, and all the different & diverse parts, of the Reading community that attended it. With the inclusion of our Day Activity Service members, their parents & carers, conversing with people outside of Reading Mencap, this creates a real feeling of integration & acceptance of Adults with Learning disabilities in their own communities.
We were very happy to have raised a total of £110.67p for Macmillan Cancer support, our highest raised year yet. Thank You to all that attended, to those who donated, and an extra big Thank You to our Day Activity Service members, who helped us make this event possible, and raising this record amount for this very important cause. WELL DONE!!!
