All about our Day Services

At Reading Mencap we like to go the extra mile to make sure everyone who attends our day services has a good day.

We aim to provide a safe and encouraging environment where unemployed adults with learning disabilities have the chance to do something meaningful with their time, reach their potential and make friends.

Members are kept busy with a range of activities – often chosen by themselves – which focus on improving health, developing independence and having fun.

We strike a balance between social, creative and physical activities either based at our centres or in the community, making use of our accessible minibus.

Activities include arts and crafts, cooking, drama, music, yoga, gardening and rugby. In the summer, we go canoeing and play tennis. We also get out as much as we can to local museums, garden and leisure centres, parks and cafes.

Members are always supported by fully trained, experienced and DBS-checked staff.

Our day services run from three bases – our Alexandra Road headquarters, St Paul’s and Abbey Baptist Church Halls – and cater to different abilities.

Fees vary according to an individual’s needs. They can be paid from people’s Personal Budgets, which is an amount of money a local authority will pay towards any social care and support an individual needs.

We fundraise annually so activities can be offered free of charge and so we can bring in expert instructors to provide special sessions such as drumming, yoga and dance.
