It’s been such a strange year for all of us with so many of our favourite activities cancelled - all of us at Reading Mencap and music lovers far and wide were so disappointed there was no Are You Listening? Festival in 2020.
Both the festival organisers and Reading Mencap are independently funded and the financial impact of the festival not going ahead has been heavy on both organisations.
Reading Mencap is set to lose around £10,000 from the cancellation of this year’s festival.
We're so pleased that the festival has been rescheduled next year in its usual April placement - Saturday 24 April 2021. Let's all keep fingers crossed that social distancing will no longer upon us.
How can you help?
People with a learning disability have been disproportionately affected by Covid-19, as they have been unable to access their usual care and support, leaving many families still stuck in lockdown.
At Reading Mencap we have been working hard to make sure everyone who needs help is getting it. We have delivered more than 1,500 free meals and delivered around 700 activity packs to children and adults with a learning disability, along with face masks and bottles of hand sanitiser.
Our Family Adviser Service has also been providing information, advice and support to clients and their families. We've also been keeping in touch with people on the telephone and by having a chat on the doorstep when we drop off activity packs.
We know times are tough for everyone, but if you are able to make a donation to help local people with a learning disability during this challenging time, we would be incredibly grateful.
