Hear Our Voice
Hear Our Voice is a vibrant, friendly self-advocacy group for adults with learning disabilities.
The group meets every Monday from 10am – 1pm at the Museum of English Rural Life (MERL), Redlands Road, Reading RG1 5EX where members:
- Learn to speak up for themselves with confidence
- Discover new talents and interests through a variety of activities including relaxation sessions, crafts and gardening
- Develop creativity through working on special projects. In 2023, members shared their experiences of the countryside in a museum display.
An important role for Hear Our Voice is in offering Learning Disability Training for business in Reading. The group has previously worked with Reading Museum, The Oracle and Reading Job Centre.
The training helps businesses and organisations improve their knowledge of learning disability and increase their confidence in working with people with learning disabilities. Members have also worked with local organisations to test consumer experiences and provide feedback to improve accessibility for people with learning disabilities. Organisations who have benefitted from this work include The Museum of English Rural Life, Broad Street Mall and Starbucks.
