Saturday Youth Club is for children and young people with a learning disability aged 10 – 19. Club members enjoy indoor and outdoor activities as well as trips out in the community. They also make new friends and most importantly, have fun!
Based in the spacious club room at Reading Mencap, typical indoor activities include games, drama, arts and crafts and cooking.
When the weather is good, club members can also use the garden, which boasts a giant swing, football net and a basketball hoop.
Saturday Youth Club is also able to get out and about for day trips using our own minibus. Thanks to fundraising we’re able to provide trips and activities – which are chosen by the children - for free.
Sarah, our highly experienced club leader, plans activities for the term ahead together with club members – with everyone getting an easy-read copy so they know what’s coming up.
Our friendly, proficient staff are fully trained. All staff, and volunteers who support the club, have Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks.
Facilities at Reading Mencap include a Changing Places toilet. Our premises are wheelchair accessible.
Please call us on 0118 966 2518 to discuss your child’s requirements. Potential new members are welcome to come along for a taster session. Admission to the group is based on an assessment of your child’s needs.
