We can’t wait to see you there – and to see what shoes you are wearing! Get creative and wear your brightest, most colourful, wackiest shoes to make everyone smile.
How to get to Forbury Gardens
Forbury Gardens are located between the town centre and the ruins of the 11th century abbey, not far from Reading Station.
Parking is limited so please use public transport if possible.
There are limited disabled parking spots at The Forbury opposite Reading Crown Court.
The nearest public car park is Queens Road.
When you arrive
Please aim to arrive between 11.45 and 11.55am for registration, which will be at the Reading Mencap gazebo.
Timings
12.00 Welcome and warm up at the bandstand with Jolene.
12.10 The walk will start!
1.15 Medals and certificates will be presented.
Refreshments
Please bring a full, refillable water bottle.
You are very welcome to bring a picnic and camp chairs. You will be able to leave belongings in the Reading Mencap gazebo (please make sure they are named). Please remember to take all your litter home with you. The Butterfly Community Cafe, a mobile catering van which teaches life skills to young people with learning disabilities, will be in the gardens selling snacks and drinks. There is also an onsite cafe in Forbury Gardens.
Toilets
There is an accessible toilet in Forbury Gardens by the cafe. There will also be two portable toilets onsite, one of which is also accessible.
Further accessible toilets are available in Reading Museum, Blagrave Street RG1 1QH.
What to wear
Don’t forget to wear colourful – but comfortable – shoes and dress for the weather. Hopefully, you’ll need sun cream!
