Volunteer with us

Can you spare a few hours – weekly, monthly or occasionally to volunteer with Reading Mencap and help support local adults with a learning disability?

Volunteering in our clubs and activities is a great way to share your skills, boost your confidence, meet new people and have fun, while gaining great experience.

We couldn’t run our clubs and activities without the help and support of our dedicated volunteers. We carefully match volunteers’ skills and interests to our clubs, ensuring you get as much out of the experience as we do.

Come and join us

Reading Mencap is currently looking for sociable volunteers at our Tuesday Gateway Club, our Performing Arts group and our monthly disco.

You will be helping adults with learning disabilities who may not otherwise get the chance to take part in meaningful activities with their peers get the most out of the clubs.

As a volunteer, you’ll assist with setting up equipment, serving refreshments, befriending attendees and encouraging them to take part. No prior experience is necessary, just a willingness to help and a positive attitude.

This roles would suit someone who:

  • Has excellent listening and communicating skills
  • Is patient and caring
  • Has empathy with people with learning disabilities
  • Is able to offer a regular commitment.

Gateway Club meets on a Tuesday evening from 7.15-9.15pm, Performing Arts Clubs runs twice a month on a Thursday evening and the disco is held on the last Thursday of each month from 7.30-9.30pm. These clubs are based at Alexandra Road, Reading RG1 5PE.

Join us in making a difference in the lives of adults with learning disabilities and sign up to volunteer today! Contact Abbi, our clubs manager, at clubsmanager@readingmencap.org.uk for more information.

All volunteers will be DBS checked.
