Support people with learning disabilities in Reading.

At Reading Mencap, we provide life-changing support and services for people with learning disabilities and their families and carers. We believe that everyone – regardless of their disability – deserves to be happy, healthy, and heard and we work tirelessly to ensure that people with a learning disability can access the same aspirations and choices that many of us take for granted.

For more than 60 years, we’ve been a lifeline for local people – offering everything from essential advocacy to much-loved social clubs. But we can’t do it alone.

While we are proud to be affiliated with national Mencap, we are a stand-alone charity and receive no funding from them.

Every penny needed to run our services in Reading must be raised by us, for us.

Our work has a real impact

In our 2025 annual survey:

• 100% of surveyed adults with a learning disability say their life is better thanks to our support.
• 96% of adults with learning disabilities ‘love’ or ‘like’ our clubs and 93% of family carers rated them as ‘excellent’ or ‘good’.
• 91% of adults with learning disabilities said Reading Mencap has helped them to meet with their friends or make new friends. 
• 86% of family carers thought the support from our Family Advisers has helped them to feel less alone.
• 84% of carers said they had a better understanding of their options and rights after receiving support from the Carers Partnership.
• 78% of family carers said the support from Reading Mencap, namely casework, advice and respite provided by 4ME and Clubs, has helped them to feel better able to cope with their caring responsibilities.
