Our 60th Anniversary Celebration

We are very excited for our 60th anniversary celebrations at Reading Minster on Friday 24 June at 7pm.

Not only is our Diamond Celebration on Friday, but this week happens to be Learning Disability Week and Small Charity Week as well!

Reading Mencap was founded in 1962 by a group of local parents. Known as the Reading Society for Mentally Handicapped Children and Adults, we ran the only clubs and services for people with a learning disability in Reading.

We’ve come a long way since 1962, changing our name to Reading Mencap in 2007 and we are marking the anniversary with an evening of songs from our choir and drama with a royal theme from our Starlights Performing Arts Club.

Songs include Happy, Dancing Queen and Rockin’ All Over the World.

We are delighted to be welcoming our Patron, Sir John Madejski and Deputy Mayor of Reading, Cllr Deborah Edwards as special guests.

Free entry. All welcome. Doors open at 7pm. Refreshments served. We will also be holding a raffle. Tickets £1 each.
