Self-care isn’t selfish, wellbeing for children and young people with SEND and looking beyond behaviour are among the topics at Parenting Special Children’s 2020 Conference.

Aimed at providing parents, carers and practitioners with a greater understanding of SEND and mental health

Programme:

9.30am
: Introduction to the Conference: Ruth Pearse (PSC CEO)

9.35am: Keynote speaker: Pooky Knightsmith: Self-care isn't selfish - You matter too     
10.30am: Refreshments and break. Opportunity to look at information stalls and buy books

11am: Jo Billington: What is 'wellbeing' for children and young people with SEND? Child and young person's perspective        
12 - 1pm: Networking lunch included for all delegates and opportunity to look at information stalls/buy books.
Afternoon: Choice of Parallel Workshops

Workshop 1: Pooky Knightsmith: Looking beyond behaviour - exploring a wide range of challenging behaviours and how to understand and respond to them.

Workshop 2: Zobia Kalim (PSC): Supporting the mental health of children and young people with early life trauma.

2pm Refreshments and break

Workshop 1: Pooky Knightsmith: Working with families - working in partnership to ensure the best outcome for children and young people

Workshop 2: PSC Sleep Team: Anxiety and Sleep.

3.30pm: Close of conference

Carers’ Steering Group

The group is made up of carers, representative from carers' support groups and staff from health and adult social care. The group is an opportunity for carers to find out more about services and support available for carers in Reading and to have a say in the development of services and support.

All carers welcome.
