A tribute to Mandi Smith
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our former CEO, Mandi Smith, who passed away on Monday 11 August, at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, aged 59.
Under Mandi’s exceptional guidance, Reading Mencap grew significantly, becoming the charity we know and cherish today. During her 15 years as CEO, she was an incredibly kind and caring leader, passionately dedicated to improving the lives of people with learning disabilities and their families.
Mandi’s profound impact on everyone at Reading Mencap will never be forgotten. She was a much-loved mother, daughter, sister, and friend, and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Our Chair, Zoe Ridout said: “Mandi was a truly wonderful, passionate and caring person who always looked out for others. Her legacy at Reading Mencap is one of lasting impact – she helped shape our charity’s work in the local community and touched countless lives through her dedication and compassion.
“I have had the privilege of working alongside Mandi for the past 10 years and will always remember her warmth, strength, and her unwavering commitment to our cause.”
Mandi stepped down from her role in June due to ill health. Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.
